Lead Software Engineer, Enterprise

  • Contract: Full-time

Job Description

  • As a Lead Engineer you’ll be involved influencing your team towards excellence in technology choices and implementation, communication, and managing priorities.
  • We are a high-impact team with plenty of self-direction. We collaborate across the organization, in partnership with Product, to build our roadmap and make a big difference in our customers’ lives.
  • With over 4 million users, we have many opportunities to improve our scalability and reliability. We are hungry to learn from you and your experience.

  • We are building industry-leading products; we invent the future as we go.
  • We are at an organizational and technological inflection point in our growth, which means there are daily opportunities to both learn and influence.

  • We care deeply for our people, and our teams.
  • Our sense of meaning and fulfillment, and subsequently our collective success, comes when each of us know where we fit, and why we fit there. We want you to know and experience this with us.
  • InVision places a high premium on health, both psychological and physical. We are engineers, but we are people, too. People with families, other pursuits and the desire to be good to ourselves. Happy employees are the best employees, and health is a priority for us.

Location, location, location

  • Work where you want: a beach, a bunker, or anywhere in-between.
  • Your coworkers will be amazing. As a distributed company we are able to bring the best talent from wherever they are or want to be.

Skill Requirements

  • You love to go deep on technology, and love to bring others with you through coaching and mentoring and working together.
  • You are experienced in delivering software for a SaaS product at scale, including the thoughtfulness that goes into safely deploying your code in a complex environment serving millions of users.
  • You make plenty of mistakes, but rarely the same one twice, because you’ve learned how to incorporate your learnings into a better result.
  • You listen first and understand problems from a people, business, and technology perspective, working with your Product Manager and team to drive the right solutions through to completion.

  • You crave critical feedback as a means to grow into the next better version of yourself.
  • You are constantly learning, whether it’s technology, systems, business, communication techniques, time management, a second (or third, or fourth) language, or anything else.
  • You aren’t satisfied with the status quo. There’s always something more.

  • You are aware of the health of your team, and with that awareness you operate conscientiously.
  • You know that most problems are people problems at their root, and effective communication is the key to success.
  • You fight for the user: you effectively weigh the needs of our internal stakeholders with the needs of our product, balancing making improvements to our product health and stability while still shipping specific features that our business needs.
  • You set appropriate and clear expectations, work hard, ship what’s most needed, all within self-imposed boundaries to ensure you stay happy, healthy, and rested.

Location, location, location

  • You have the self-discipline to organize your own work and time.
  • You take initiative to spend time with your team, intentionally developing effective relationships.
  • You have — or create — the physical space to focus when focus is needed.

  • Experience designing, building, and/or maintaining high volume, scalable SaaS applications.
  • Excellent communication skills, both in your listening and answering skills as well as your ability to clearly communicate your perspective and intent to others.
  • Strong proficiency preferably in either Node.js, or Golang or solid professional experience in Java, Scala, or yes even ColdFusion.
  • Experience debugging complex issues at every level of the stack; you should be able to debug a web application problem single-handedly all the way from the browser, through the transport, the application, and servers, databases and asynchronous queues. You shouldn’t be afraid of debugging existing legacy applications or of piles of logs to slice-and-dice using
